Computational metabolic modeling


Phytophthora infestans is a pathogen that causes late blight, one of the most destructive diseases in potato (Solanum tuberosum) and other plant hosts. Despite the importance of this disease, the main molecular mechanisms implicated in the pathosystem are poorly known. A metabolic computational model of the compatible interaction between P. infestans and S. tuberosum has been generated in order to predict the molecular mechanisms associated to the disease and the photosynthetic inhibition of infected plants. A genomic-scale metabolic reconstruction of S. tuberosum was developed based on the functional annotation of its genome and metabolome and its comparison with biochemical databases.
