Orchid Phylogeny

Orchids belong to the flowering plants family with the greatest number of species in the planet, and occupies the first place in species diversity in the country (274 genera and 4270 species). These species are an emblematic symbol of the exuberant diversity of the Colombian ecosystems; however, the knowledge on these species is still scarce. This study is aimed at exploring the evolutionary relationships of the tribe Cymbidieae (Epidendroideae), a group of Neotropical orchids, using phylogenomics tools to resolve their phylogeny based on complete chloroplast sequences. The results allow to understand more about our diversity of endemic orchids, explore our genetic resources, and promote their conservation.
