He worked for over 25 years at the Center for Coffee Research (Cenicafé) as scientific researcher, where he focused on genetic improvement of the coffee bean and in disease studies affecting it, specifically coffee rust.
He always knew what he wanted to do in life, he wished to investigate and ask the world to reveal its secrets, and so he obtained a degree in microbiology from the Universidad de los Andes.
Thanks to a scholarship from the British Council and Colciencias, he carried out his doctoral studies in Molecular Biology of Plants at the University of Manchester, England, while still holding a job position at Cenicafé.
Later, he began his post-doctorate research in Bioinformatics at Cornell University in the United States, which provided him with important tools to continue his analyses in coffee.
Along with other colleagues from Cenicafé, he obtained second place for the Alejandro Ángel Escobar National Science Award in 2008 for his research in the coffee bean genome.
Currently at BIOS, he seeks to take advantage of this great opportunity to carry out innovative research that can have a great impact on the city, the region and the country, helping to consolidate Colombia as a country connected to the latest technologies and science.
Biologist graduated from the Universidad del Valle, Master in Geographic Information System from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, and Master in Introduction to Research in Agrarian and Environmental Sciences from the Universidad de Zaragoza. She coursed her doctorate studies in Agrarian and Environmental Sciences at the Universidad de Zaragoza thanks to a scholarship from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness from the Government of Spain. During the last nine years, she was worked in biodiversity research in Colombia at a molecular level, carrying out phylogeographic studies and using bioinformatics tools to study wildtype populations of the model plant of temperate cereals (Brachypodium distachyon).
Currently at BIOS, she is a researcher in the area of Bioprospecting and Bioinformatics, managing and proposing initiatives at different levels. She enjoys reading, traveling, and being in contact with nature.
Microbiologist graduated from the Universidad de los Andes, Master in Biology from the same university, and Ph.D. in Integrative Plant Biology from the Université de Montpellier in France. She worked for over seven years at the Research Center in Tropical Agriculture –CIAT, involved in diverse research projects such as plant-virus interaction, gene mapping, genetic diversity, and improvement of the genetic resources present in wildtype rice species, among others. She carried out several internships at laboratories at the Unversidad de Londrina in Brazil and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received training in genomic library construction and analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)-derived data in plants. She values spending her free time in the company of her family, specially her two sons.
Biological engineer graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Master in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad de los Andes. She has experience in systems biology, metagenomics, and metabolic networks reconstruction, as well as plant cells rheology, microbiology, and metagenomics libraries screening. Currently, she is focused on research and development at BIOS. She enjoys running, playing ultimate, and watching series.
Biologist graduated from the Universidad de Caldas and student of the Master’s in Bioinformatics at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She has experience in genomics, transcriptomics, and biological networks. Currently, she is formulating and carry out research projects aimed at generating computational metabolic models of crops of national and regional interest. She likes to practice ultimate and swimming.
Biologist graduated from the Universidad de Caldas and Master in Science-Biology from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She carried out her graduate studies thanks to an auxiliary professor scholarship granted by the university. She has worked in molecular biology research in the medicinal fungus, Ganoderma austral to identify protein-coding genes of medical interest, and in comparative genomics research in the invertebrate cnidarian model species, Hydractinia symbiolongicarpus in search of candidate genes controlling a histocompatibility phenomenon in that species. Currently at BIOS, she carries out genomics and transcriptomics data analysis in several species and develops research proposals in the area of Bioprospecting and Bioinformatics, mainly in health-related topics. She is an animal lover and enjoys outdoor activities with her family, like camping and hiking, as well as traveling and swimming.
Biological engineer graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Master in Biology with an emphasis in Computational Biology from the Universidad de Antioquia. She has belonged to several research groups at the Universidad de Antioquia and the Center for Research and Development in Biotechnology –CIDBIO. She has experience in bioinformatics, mainly biological sequence analysis, evolutionary analysis, and genomic-scale data analysis applied to public health problems. She loves traveling, enjoying landscapes and watching movies.
He studied Computer Sciences and Systems Engineering at the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira. He was granted a Young Researcher scholarship by Colciencias. He obtained his masters degree in image processing at the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 in France thanks to the ECOS Nord scholarship from the government of France. He has experience in advanced technologies integration, urban traffic and medical image diagnostics, and is interested in computer vision, image processing, and scientific visualization. He has participated in biomedical research centers such as Creatis in Lyon. He has a passion for automobiles.
Chemical engineer graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia with an emphasis in environmental engineering. She has knowledge skills in equipment design for the chemical industry, effluent treatment, electrochemical measurements, and process control systems. She has taken training courses in industrial safety and occupational health, water treatment systems operation, and hazardous waste supervision and management. Currently at BIOS, she works in the development of bioengineering projects related to chemistry and electrochemistry. She likes sports, specially basketball and soccer.

Researcher in Bioengineering area at BIOS. Electronic engineer graduated of Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He received his MSc in Industrial Automation with honors at the same university. He has three years of expertise in the fields of computer vision and machine learning focused on new apps and automatic tools development for the industry and productive sectors.
Systems and Computer Engineer graduated from the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira and Specialist in Software Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma de Manizales. He has participated in several programming competitions, where he has obtained first place in regional and national events, and was finalist in South America. He has experience in business software development projects, web portal and mobile applications development, and cloud computing. Currently at BIOS, he works as Leader in Software Development in the area of Bioengineering. He loves sports, mainly martial arts; he is black belt in Shaolin.
Visual designer graduated from the Universidad de Caldas. He has participated in different creation processes, from which he has gained an objective perspective from different angles. He has experience in fixed images, editorial design, corporate identity creation, packaging, communication strategies, and image audiovisuals. He loves rugby and animation.
Electronics engineer graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. During his undergraduate studies he participated in digital signal processing and telecommunications projects. He has been granted several scholarships that have allowed him to complement his formation through national and international training in different areas. Currently at BIOS, he works in the area of Bioengineering and Visualization in the development of I+D projects related with artificial vision, graphic computing and signal processing. He enjoys videogames and traveling.
Technologist in information systems analysis and development from SENA. He has experience in web applications development, with a biotechnological focus. Currently at BIOS, he works as a Developer in the area of Bioengineering. He has experience in innovation of digital platforms for scientific-technical topics. He loves soccer and videogames.
Systems and telecommunications engineer graduated from the Universidad de Manizales. Acknowledged on three occasions for his academic excellence. He has received training in mobile devices programming, offered by Crystal ELearning (Málaga-Spain), web development by the Universidad de Manizales, and he has participated in web programming courses focused on systems functions. He has worked at Almera Information Management Ltda in programming and information uploading, as well as TICs Solution in system design, development, and implementation from front-end to back-end. Currently at BIOS, he carries out tasks related to the design, implementation, testing, display, documentation, and specifications of apps development. He is passionate about soccer and is a fan of the Once Caldas soccer team.

Jorge Iván Cuervo Valencia, Business administrator and Master with an emphasis in finances from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He has over 10 years of experience in administrative positions in companies of the technology and innovation sector, as well as two years of experience in administrative functions for the Educational division of CONFA. He is a professor at the Universidad de Manizales in the area of finances at the undergraduate, specialization and master level. Currently at BIOS, he holds the position of Administrative and Financial Coordinator. He loves to enjoy good food, play soccer, and watch a good movie.
Public accountant graduated from the Universidad de Manizales and Specialist in Financial Management. Transactional Black Belt – Quality Six Sigma. She has a Diploma in interventory, a Diploma in teaching, and is “Certified Internal Auditor – CIA”. IIA. International Norms in Financial information NIFF 2014. She has experience in consultation, internal control, and auditing. She has over 18 years of experience in job positions such as internal control chief, administrative and financial coordinator, advisor, and consultant to businesses of the region. She has also been delegated comptroller of SuperSalud. Currently, she is the internal auditor at BIOS.

She is focused on generating sustainable strategies for networking, taking advantage of scientific and technological capacities for the competitive development of the biotechnological system in the country. At BIOS, her function is related to proposing solutions for the academic, productive, and government sectors. She is a very cheerful woman.

He has a broad experience in audiovisual realization and digital content for different businesses. She has over nine years of experience. At BIOS, she is advisor to the area of Formation and Training, in charge of Objective 1: “Training”, under the framework of the Royalties Project. Initially, she was assistant to the director of BIOS, with responsibilities such as following-up on direction activities and maintaining a constant communication with national and international entities. She worked at Colciencias as assistant to the director of Investigation and assistant to the General Subdirector. She is passionate about photography.
