The Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology of Colombia – BIOS is the most important Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) initiative in the country. We were created to enhance the knowledge-based economy and technology transfer. BIOS is promoted by the national government (Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies -MinTIC and Colciencias), the private sector (Microsoft and Hewlett Packard), and the academy (Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Universidad de Caldas, Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, and Universidad del Quindío). We are a private non-profit institution that provides robust supercomputing and highly qualified human talent for research and innovation; linking the government, industry, and academy to drive national progress based on science, technology, and innovation.  BIOS aims to impact the policy on productive transformation in Colombia through high-impact projects in the agroindustry, cosmetics, health, food, machinery and equipment sectors.

To be leaders in the development of innovative solutions and services through the use of knowledge and ICT tools grounded on biological principles. By this, we aim to impact the industry, government, and the academy of our country and Latin America.

BIOS aims to take advantage of the scientific advances in biology and technology so these can be applied to the industrial, academic, and government sectors to generate competitiveness, increase productivity, and contribute to the social and economic development of Colombia. Based on this premise, we develop Research, Development and Innovation in our strategic areas to impact on the following areas:

•       Research and Development

•       Health

•      Education

•       Social

•       Environmental

•       Económic

•       Political

In this way, we will contribute to consolidate a digital economy, develop a bioeconomy, and venture into the fourth industrial revolution that will lead Colombia to its socioeconomic enhancement based on the use of technologies.
